Holly Petersen
I am currently a graduate student pursuing a PhD in Biochemistry and Structural Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. From 2019-2023 I studied at St. Olaf College where I graduated cum laude majoring in chemistry and music. During my time at St. Olaf I worked in the laboratory of Dr. Cassandra Joiner where I studied the importance of active site residues in human O-GlcNAc transferase and the plant homologues SEC and SPY for nucleotide-sugar cofactor selection. In 2021 I participated in the Summer in Biomedical Science program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and worked in the lab of Dr. William Placzek where I investigated the role of TAp73 expression on intrinsic apoptosis in triple negative breast cancer.
In my free time I enjoy running, reading, and crocheting as well as continuing to pursue my musical interests.
